My Hobbies

I have tried my hand at many hobbies in the past, but have always had Music as my favourite!!

I though it would be nice to put together some pages with pictures and other memories of these various activities.

Music

As a child, my parents and siblings treated me to a plethera of music, ranging from classical music to mordern rock.

Some of my favourite memories include the music of Paul Mauriat, Carpenters, Beatles, and all the Classical Genieuses like Beethovan, Mozart, and others. Records with instrumentals of Trumpet Festival, Orchestras, Golden Guitars, Ventures, etc. filled the cupboards.

My personal journey in music began in the year 1987.

Robotics

I have loved designing and building robots since 1995. I have designed a robotic arm but did not get a chance to build it. However, in my final year of Mechanical Engineering, I had the opportunity to build an 'Automated Guided Vehicle' that I utilized the work I put into the Robotic Arm, to design and build a 'Programmable Remote Operated Trolley - PROT'.

Astronomy

As a child, I was facinated by the heavenly bodies in our universe. Since 1988, I have studied the planets and stars, and other celestial objects in the night sky.

The Planetarium
My passion for astrnonmy led me to design and construct a fully automated planetarium in the year 1992.

The planetarium seated 40 people. Two projectors were used to display images of the cosmos, synchronized with a pre-recorded narration of the program script. The mysterious and enchanting music of Paul Maurait played in the background. The program was 15 minutes in duration and described
  • theroies of the evolution of the universe,
  • the sun and planets
  • our nebhouring galaxies
  • space carfts and satellites
  • constellations
Over 2000 students viewed the show over a span of two days, and my memories of the four months of dedicated design and construction of my planetaurium will always be cherished.

The Model Rockets
I constructed many model rockets in my early teens. The earliest memories was with Prasanna, a good friend from school. We used shoe-polish, a medicine bottle and a candel to launch the cork off the medicine bottle. Since then, I have tried various means of thrust from rubber bands to gun powder. Gangways and Launchers were constructed from Lego Kits. Ignition was triggered by complex programs written on my Spectrum Computer, linked to the Lego Mechanisms that caused Glycerine to interact with Potassium Permanganate to cause a fire that ignited the fuse to the gun powder. All in all, by the age of 16 I had had lots of fun experiences building these rockets, and having my sister Rosemary ready with a bucket of water, in case something went wrong.
