My Home Studio - SEVEN-G
I have been recording music from the age of 14 on an Old Bush Cassette player that we had back in Bangalore. Some of the first songs I recorded with my sister Rosemary included 'As Tears Go By', 'Summer Wine' and instrumentals like 'Love Song', 'Sweet caroline' and many others. My first attempt to record music using software on a computer was back in 2001 when I got hold of the initial release of Calkwalk. I was with my band Mixed Fruit Jam, and we tried to record our abbum one track at a time. It was painfully slow and cumbersome as my computer was a 386, and was too slow to work on. We finally gave up and headed to Sugander Studios where my debut Album 'Out of the Dark' was recorded.
It was not until I came to the United States in 2003, that I got an opportunity to record again. I realzed after leaving my band back behind in Bangalore, and tonnes of Books to read for my Masters Course in Los Angeles, I did not have much time to start a band. I had a lap top, my Ibanez and a Boss GT6. I downloade a trial version of Fruity Loops and Acid. Using a combination of these two software, I was able to sequence drums and record my guitar tracks to the computer. I recorded backing tracks for my instrumental 'Stepping Stones' and Joe Satriani's 'Summer Song'. I was then able to perform Solo at various college music events including one at 'Ground Zero', USC.
After I graduated, I came to Seattle and was ramping up on my new Job and music was slow. As things stabilized, I started to upgrade my equipment and recording gear. Experimenting with various configurations since 2005, with the help of Brian Hunsaker and Steve De Mar I have put together a Dream Studio that I spent most of my spare time after work and on weekends. My band 'Memento' uses the studio to rehearse every Monday from 6pm to 9pm. I named the studio Seven-G and enjoy every moment spent behinf this Set Up.
